about me!!

My name is Julia McGowan, thanks for checking out my work! I was raised just 20 minutes outside Washington D.C. in Bethesda, Maryland, where I spent my pivotal years wreaking havoc on anyone who had the patience to sit through my self-written, self-produced one-kid plays.

My real love of theater blossomed when during her 5th grade production of Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. My stunning yet outlandish performance as "Oompa Loompa #3" is still highly regarded among the Burning Tree Elementary School P.T.A.  Big kid training began in high school after being accepted into the Pre-Professional Training Program at Strathmore Center of the Arts.

I am a graduate from the University of Southern California School of Dramatic Arts, where I received a B.A. Theatre (Acting Emphasis), with an additional minor in screenwriting from the USC School of Cinematic Arts! Having gone on to continue my craft bi-coastally, some notable stage credits including “Sally Bowles” in I Am a Camera, “Sarah” in the premier of Breaking Barriers, and “Van’s Sister” in Dog Sees God.

My passion for acting, directing, and writing is fueled by the excitement of not what is on the page, but what is between the lines; the electricity of a moment. I am passionate about work that fundamentally embraces human connection, making sense of the world and of each other.

When not frolicking around a set or the stage, I enjoy going to concerts, Tim Burton films, playing soccer, distance running, and shredding my electric guitar (currently mastering “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”). I strive to go through life the same way she approaches acting: with equal amounts of empathy, love, and chaos.
